SHANGHAI, CHINA (8 October 2008) β Today, MWE China Law Offices made a donation to the Shanghai Science & Education Development Foundation for the purpose of providing financial support to the disaster-affected areas in Sichuan province. Ms. Zuo Huanchen, chairman of the Foundation, Mr. Yao Zongqiang, vice chairman of the Foundation, Mr. Chen Jun, secretary general of the Foundation and Mr. Zhao Shiming, vice president of the Shanghai Science & Technology Museum accept the donation for the Foundation. Two days after the 5.12 earthquake in Wenchuan, all employees of MWE China Law Offices organized a donation and delivered the donated funds to the relevant agency on the same day. Meanwhile, employees of McDermott Will & Emery, MWE China Law Office’s strategic partner, expressed concern over the disaster in China. Led by the Pro Bono & Community Service Committee, MWE China Law Offices and McDermott Will & Emery raised an additional RMB 150,000 for disaster relief.
Ms. Huanchen acknowledged that the strategic alliance between MWE China Law Offices and McDermott Will & Emery successfully integrated lawyer resources worldwide to jointly contribute to the public welfare,. Finally, Ms. Huanchen stated that all donations would be used for purchasing science popularization equipment for mobile science and technology museums to be provided to the schools of the disaster-affected areas.
In addition to joining efforts with McDermott Will & Emery’s Pro Bono & Community Service Committee on relief efforts for the sake of global public welfare, MWE China Law Offices actively participates in the activities organized by the committee. For example, MWE China Law Offices has assisted in providing pro bono legal services to the U.S. Clinton Foundation and has made donations to the children of several poor regions such as Qinghai, Tibet.
